More info: Sock and Shoe is an evening of two unique performances. Part one, Sole Mate starts out the night with a love song of grand hopes and simple means. Created by Cristina Bercovitz Jessica Erskine and Jonathan Snipes this charming story song is brought to life through the imaginative manipulation of found object puppets. Part two: Death and Giggles (created by former Cirque du Soleil clown, Actors Gang Member and Three Chairs Resident Artist Daisuke Tsuji) takes us on a physical journey without words that mixes clowning, puppetry and modern dance to explore the absurdity of death with a story of one man's journey through the afterlife. Come and hang out with us after the show we will be having informal talk backs and refreshments.

"The Actors' Gang is best known for its ensemble work, for big shows with large casts," comments Associate Artistic Director V.J. Foster. "With our new performance series, we want to revive an old Actors' Gang tradition in our new Culver City home and share the remarkable individual talents of our 60-plus members. These are difficult times, and we want to open up this great space of ours to our fellow artists who share the Gang's vision and ideology."
The Actors' Gang, founded in 1982 by a group of renegade theater artists, has over 100 productions and more than 100 awards to its credit, and consistently wins acclaim for its daring interpretations of Shakespeare, Buchner, Brecht, Moliere, Aeschylus, Ibsen and Chekhov, while also developing bold new plays that address the world today through a prism of satire, popular culture, and raucous stagecraft. The Gang is currently touring nationally with Michael Gene Sullivan's adaptation of George Orwell's 1984, directed by the company's artistic director, Tim Robbins, and recently completed international dates in New Zealand, Australia, and Hong Kong. Other Actors' Gang productions that have previously toured to cities across the U.S include Tim Robbins' Embedded, Anne Nelson's The Guys, and Jessica Blank's and Erik Jensen's The Exonerated. The Actors' Gang actively reaches out to the community with its Free Summer-in-the-Park productions for families; Artist Residency in Local Schools program; by running lower, middle and high school after school programs with children from the community; by performing special matinees for local schools; and with accessibility performances for the hearing- and sight-impaired.

Sock and Shoe
We had such a good time with this production we are sad to see it close, but we are hoping to possibly bring it back for a tighter, even more fun, longer, run some time in the near future. Thanks to all who helped make it possible.
We kicked off the new year with all our favorite things... comedy, puppets, music, clowning, and surprises.
Sock and Shoe is composed of two new shows...
SOLE MATE is a charming love song of simple means and large hope told through the manipulation of found object puppets. Featuring performances by Cristina Bercovitz and Jessica Erskine.
DEATH AND GIGGLES is one man's journey through the after life and the absurdity of death, told with a combination of clowning, puppetry and modern dance. Featuring Daisuke Tsuji, a former clown with Cirque du Soleil.
This show is rated "B" for potential balloon humping.

POSSESSION A Ghost Story and Puppet Show
Halloween was awesome! Perhspace was fantastic! The response has been incredible. We are so grateful for the kind words and enthusiasm. Possession is a new show inspired by the story of the dybbuk. This original shadow puppetry piece by Three Chairs Theater mixes live performers, supernatural puppets and intense live music. Featuring live performances by Daisuke Tsuji, Shannon Kennedy, Jon Borges, Jessica Erskine, Evan Drane, and Cristina Bercovitz.

Believe You Me
Performed in June of 2008 in association with West Los Angeles College, Believe You Me consisted of two original pieces adapted from folklore. The first piece was adapted from The Brothers Grimm story, The Owl, using ordinary inanimate objects as a form of puppetry. The second piece was derived from a Korean myth, The Origin of the Butterfly. All elements of this productions were developed from recycled building materials.

Easily Said
In June of 2007, Easiy Said was produced in association with the Academe of Visual and Performing Arts at the Robert Frost auditorium at Culver City High School. This production was funded by a grant from the City of Culver City.

Sang Lee, I Hear you
In August and September of 2006. Sang Lee, I Hear You was produced in Culver City with support from local Boy Scout Troop 113. The source material was the work of the Korean poet, Sang Lee, who is famous in Korea but little known in the US. This performance was an exploration of cultures and the commonality of emotion and was preformed simultaneously in both English and Korean.

Dream of a Butterfly and Faceless Dream
In December of 2005, Three Chairs worked in conjunction with West Los Angeles College to produce two one-act pieces. Dream of a Butterfly was performed and produced by several Three Chairs resident artists. Faceless Dream, was directed by former Artistic Director, Cheolseung Kim as part of our educational outreach program. The cast was made up of students from West LA College and Culver City High School students taught by Chosen Kim.

Tape 39
January of 2005 marked the beginning of the second project by Three Chairs, Tape 39. During the 8 months rehearsal process, Three Chairs held workshops with students from Culver City high school and three peer presentations for students and colleagues. We performed Tape 39 as a part of Edge of the World Theatre Festival at the Los Angeles Theatre Center from Sept. 15th~Oct. 1st. This ambitious show was based on the concept of combining Krapps Last Tape and Titus Andronicus in a meditation on torture.

Why This Farce
Why This Farce was performed in 2004 in association with the Shakespeare LA Festival stage, a non-traditional warehouse venue in downtown Los Angeles. This original show was the product of an investigation into the combination of Samuel Beckett's End Game and Shakespears King Lear.
