ABOUT

We are Three Chairs Theater. We are a dedicated group of artists that have banded together to create beautiful simple live preformace experences. Our name comes from a saying we have, "Give us three chairs and an empty space and we can make anything".

Mission Statement

The primary objectives and purposes of this corporation shall be: to teach and foster art, especially through education and outreach. We promote outreach and education by making live performance accessible and affordable; in doing so we include and attract young people to become exposed to and interested in live performance. We aim to enhance the culture of our community and bring people together for the shared enjoyment of live performance. We are committed to creating quality productions out of simple means, promoting and teaching resourcefulness and creativity. Our name is derived from this core value. We have a saying "give us three chairs and an empty space and we can make anything". We are dedicated to creating and fostering new works. We begin with source materials from a variety of cultures and ethnicities. We contemporize the source materials by communicating them in a new way or we use them to inspire a new work.

Death and Giggles and Sole Mate
We had such a great responce from Sock and Shoe that we brought it back. This show was a collaboration with the Actor's Gang at their beautiful space in Culver City September 18th - October 23rd 2009.

We addopt Chairseung
Chairseung becomes our new logo, mascot and also a dedication to our former artistic director Cheolseung Kim who founded the company and brought us all together.

Sock and Shoe
Three Chairs’ production of Sock and Shoe was performed at the Powerhouse Theater in Santa Monica, CA on Jan. 2nd~4th, 2009. Sock and Shoe consisted of two new original theater pieces: Sole Mate and Death and Giggles.

Possession a Ghost Story and Puppet Show
Possession
, a touring show, was first performed on Halloween night, October 31, 2008, on the front lawn of a house in the Mid City neighborhood. The show was intended to entertain and educate trick-or-treaters and their families with a performance based on the story of the Dybuk taken from Jewish folklore. Set pieces and puppets were made from recyclable and neglected items such as bent fence posts, bed sheets and old boxes. With the support of the neighborhood committee, we estimate 80 people gathered during the two public performances to share the event. After each performance, complimentary candy was distributed and the company socialized with local families. Later that night, Three Chairs took the show to a volunteer-run venue for promoting underground music, Women. All performances on Halloween were free and open to the public. On November 24, 2008 Possession was preformed at the club Pehrspace in Echo Park.
